The authorities shoot at the demonstrators. Dr. Brzeziński: As for the December massacre, virtually no one was punished
For many days, the topic did not leave the headlines, and more officials appeared in the hospital. Leokadia Rychert was visited by members of the Polish United Workers' Party, the presidium of the PRN, as well as the commander of the unit in which her husband served. Two days later, Prime Minister Jaroszewicz wrote a letter of congratulations to the Rychert family.
"I assure you that the government of the People's Republic of Poland and local authorities will take special care of your family, guaranteeing care for the health and development of quintuplets by outstanding specialists - doctors and qualified nurses. We will also provide you with adequate housing conditions."
The newspapers reported that the authorities were considering the purchase of a single-family house or two connected flats in the Za Torami estate in Pruszcz Gdański, which together were to provide 5 rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. The help was declared by the Provincial Food Cooperative "Społem" (the mother of quintuplets worked there), declaring that she would provide constant nursing care for the little ones.
Problem with a pram for quintuplets
The family was also to receive five cots, their children layettes and free allowances of powdered milk. "But it will be worse with a gift in the form of a stroller. The authorities of the district of Pruszcz Gdański hope that a pram factory will take care of it, because so far - prams for quintuplets have not been produced here" - this is an excerpt from an article from Dziennik Bałtycki.
The people's authorities also treated the birth of quintuplets in terms of their success. It was emphasized at every step that these were the first quintuplets in Poland and that it was a sensation on a global scale. Honorary godparents of quintuplets were, among others: Prime Minister Piotr Jaroszewicz and then deputy member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party, minister general. Wojciech Jaruzelski. The latter promised a few days after the birth that Bronisław Rychert would receive a one-time allowance in the army, and later also a permanent supplement to his salary.
A photograph of all five of the youngest Rycherts was included in the one-volume PWN encyclopedia.
Gifts rain fell on the family from Pruszcz Gdański. Apartment, modern equipment, financial aid. Subsequent establishments competed in handing over gifts, kitchen robots, furniture, telephones, and there were even declarations of free TV inspection.
The authorities shook their noses at the baptism, then there was silence in the media
The quintuplets Adam, Agnieszka, Ewa, Piotr and Roman left the hospital a few months after giving birth. The family has already moved to a new apartment. The authorities prepared a villa for them after one of the local officials. There, the children were provided with constant care by a nurse.
Journalists were interested in the family for a long time. The people's government did not forget about the marriage from Pruszcz Gdański. The Rycherts were invited to the next state ceremonies. Each time there was a media spectacle, and dignitaries, such as Edward Gierek, were very eager to photograph themselves with the Rychert family.
From Gedanopedii: "The military authorities of the time had a wrong reaction to the baptism of the children, and the father's activity in Solidarity after 1980. Bronisław Rychert left the reserve, and there was an ongoing and now media silence over the quintuplets. The press only noted the fact that in 1986 (in the 15 anniversary of their birth) a gift from General Wojciech Jaruzelski: the ZX Spectrum computer, and the participation of all five in the first ever parliamentary elections on June 4, 1989 ".
In free Poland, quintuplets avoided media publicity. Adam and Piotr became professional soldiers of the Navy, Roman - a policeman, Agnieszka - a laboratory assistant at the hospital at ul. Kliniczna, Ewa - worked at a school in Podlasie. Everyone started their families.
