Et tu Brutus? But okey, let's. Even if I didn't celebrate the day with my wife I can with you and hopefully with the rest ofour squad ;D ;D ;D Lyrics essence: Thank you for yourselfNo essence, just usual stuff, but more Warsaw to accompany shots from Szczepanik 'clip'. Which I liked very much - that's Warsaw when I started to see it The recent additions are somewhat like new furniture, nice and comfortable but not like the good old ones.

So Pieter, do people of Netherlands celebrate Saint Valentine's day like Bo, or they don't? Tufta, Valentine's day is celebrated in the Netherlands although it is not an original Dutch thing. Saint Valentine's Day, commonly known as Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is observed on February 14 each year. It is celebrated in many countries around the world, although it remains a working day in most of them. St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. The most popular martyrology associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. During his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote her a letter " from your Valentine" as a farewell. Today, Saint Valentine's Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion, as well as in the Lutheran Church. The Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrates Saint Valentine's Day, albeit on July 6th and July 30th, the former date in honor of the Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and the latter date in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna (modern Terni). Since the Calvinist and Roman-Catholic Dutch people have no historical connection with Saint Valentine Valentines or Valentine's Day as we call it in Dutch, it must have been coming in via the British and American cultures which had some significant influence on the Dutch popular culture in the 20th century. Some Dutch people participate in the Valentine's Day tradition of sending cards to loved ones or giving flowers or romantic presents. Others don't, because they don't feel connected to it. It's not connected to the calvinist mainstream culture. Maybe Roman Catholics are more adabtable to Valentine's Day, because they are less stubborn, strict and dogmatic. But ofcourse catholics, moderate (liberal) Calvinists and secular people (the latter is maybe the majortiy) participate in Valentine's day. This is the movie I filmed and edited for Valentines day: ( Watch from 4.54 ) A Valentine's day special by young colleages of mine about a young man who got a car accident, and had to revalidate for 5 years. He became in love with a Fashion boutique selling girl. This program tries to connect them. The first attempt of him failed. Here he tries again, but unfortunately fails again. She rejected him. (The item was a little bit provocative and filmed in a video clip, hip hop stile. Our local broadcast corporation is a little bit conservative and traditional, so this youngsters took a risk in making it this way.)

In Poland it sneaks into popular culture, mainly due to marketing - it is always good for shops to have a new occassion to make people BUY. But I think the first wave of Poles being 'enchanted' with everything American is over. Sorry, Jeanne BTW. we now have some of Vermont snow you had, a lot of snow and nice, picteresque winter!

I liked Maleńczuk - Nigdy więcej very much. Good voice and nice soft guitar play which merges with the voice. And the first guy in the same post who sang Nigdy więcej in 1984 reminded me of Charlez Aznavour. His voice.
(My mother is fond of this great French-Armenian singer)
Piotr Szczepanik - Kochać is a nice song and a very nice video. Nice images. Piotr Szczepanik - Żółte kalendarze (1968) too. I really like Janusz Radek's "dziękuję za miłość". Pestka - Miłość merges nice with the images of the film. Sometimes it is to bad that I am not able to understand the meaning of the lyrics. The song sounds good.
The lady Poetic singer Antonina Krzysztoń with her song Usłysz proszę is good too. It reminded me of another non Polish song, but I can't remember exactly which one. It is in the relaxed, Popular music (Muzyka rozrywkowa( genre).
Cheers, Pieter

Tufta, Please don't worry about offending me...I'm certainly not enchanted with everything American, either!! (I'm quite counter-cultural, in case you haven't noticed! ;D) I just returned from Vermont after spending some time with my daughter and family, since this was school vacation week and I didn't have to work! (Yay!) As opposed to the last time I went (Christmas time), there was hardly any snow in Vermont, but here at home we had about 2 feet from a blizzard two weeks ago. More snow is expected this weekend! I'm glad you are enjoying your picturesque winter! I too enjoy the loveliness of newly fallen snow, but after a few days it becomes so dirty that it it depressing! I think I'm ready for the snow to be replaced by green grass!
