I am afraid your knowlegde about Poland is a little out-of-date. St. Valentine`s Day is celebrated in Poland too. Today even during the mass families and lovers were blessed by the priest. To traditionalists` dismay and anger. Ha Ha! Bonobo, you are right. My relatives never talk about their Valentine and Sweetest Day. I know about Christmas, New Years, Easter, & Name Day too. That is why I am reading in here because you are greatest Teacher. I appreciated your wonderful helps and stores and pictures. Wow. You should move to U.S.A. I would like to know what changes Poland have made.

Valentine's Day forced on Poles? 14.02.2010 12:39
Valentine’s Day is celebrated across Poland and many parts of the world today.
For some it is an occasion to share their inner and perhaps most sensual feelings, for others it remains a marekting ploy to force people to buy as many presents and other gimmicks as possible: red hearts, huge teddy bears, presents, cards, etc.
Sociologists agree that most people are actually aware that Valentine’s Day is a marketing tactic, explains sociologist Dr. Piotr Kulas from the University of Silesia in Katowice, southern Poland.
"People don’t completely feel this holiday 100 percent, because it relates to something plastic and fake," Kulas says, "but they succumb to the marketing ploys to show their feelings to their loved ones because they are scared that if they don’t, they’ll be blamed for not having any feelings for their other half, and no-one wants that."
Valentine’s Day is a greater marketing opportunity for singles, as they can buy many presents for many crushes, rather than couples, who only buy a gift for their other halves.
"Whoever’s single can afford to buy more presents without being suspected by anyone of cheating or having an affair, so this holiday is not just for couples but moreso for singletons," Dr. Kulas muses.
Valentine’s Day came to Poland in the 1990s, and is the western contender to the Slavic “Noc Kupały”, or Kupala Night, celebrated on St. John’s day at the end of June each year.

www.thenews.pl/business/artykul125608_valentines-day-forced-on-poles.htmlWow, what a nice story. It is true some people don't celebrates Valentine Day. They feel it isn't important. It's depend on people who loves someone special wanting to buy something special like jewelry. Some don't do it, they buy Valentine candies like Hot Red Lips, Red Rose Candies or sexy nighties. If you want to. If you have problems with your loved one, it is hard to enjoy this day. It is understandable why you don't feel like doing anythings.

"I love you very much!!!" I thought you don`t speak or read Polish! I don't...but I have taught myself the phonetics of Polish. I know what sounds the letters make, but don't know what the words mean that are made up of those sounds. But...it does allow me to read your clever little trick of using Polish phonetics to spell out English words!
