It looks as though Poland and Holland have made some changes in direction with the last election. Without being completely informed, these look promising to me.

Bo, If you find reason to supect that you have a problem, you probably do. To admit a problem with ones self takes a strong man, not a weak one. The good news is that by admitting this you are 50% finished with the process of recovery. I have had struggles with drink and been for the most part victorious. You and I are far from alone in this struggle as this is a common malady. Keep in mind that no matter what happened yesterday, every morning we have a new day to try and get it right. Godspeed Bonobo.

It looks like people are dealing well with the situation. My co-worker was in Nashville Tennessee when the flooding occurred there. His wifes car was lost and he slept in a school gymnasium for three days, but it was quite an adventure. He was glad he had a dry home to come back to in Ohio.

Wow, That looks very interesting. I may need to read it. Here is a book I read about two years ago. www.hippocrenebooks.com/book.aspx?id=1094 I purchased it at a pottery shop in Seattle. The book has lots of recipes, but it is so full of tradition and cultural reference that the cooking is almost secondary. I really felt a new understanding of my grandparents and why they did the things they did. I would love to hear a Polish persons opinion of the book after reading it. -Tim

Bo, A judge in the US doesn't typically have the right to convict anyone of anything. A criminal or civil trial is held with a jury. A jury is 12 random citizens who live in the county where the trial is held. The jury has the duty to determine guilt of a person, The judge is responsible for the sentence to be served if convicted. Often the jury makes a recommendation with regards to sentencing but with certain minimum sentencing laws for many crimes the judge and jury are without option in this matter.
As ugly as being wrongfully convicted is, the fact that we still investigate claims after 30 years is promising isn't it?

I did a google translate of the song. Its rough, but, you get the meaning. On my screen the English version only appeared but when I copied it and pasted, both versions showed up. An interesting insight into how Google translate works. It is a beautiful song.
Girl Eyes Lyrics to Heaven: Io non ho mai dimenticato quello che ho fatto da me, I have never forgotten what I've done to me, lascerò questo triste porto, e porto via dolori da qui. sad to leave this port, and take away pain from here. Io non ho mai cancellato il dolore che ho dentro da un pò, I never erased the pain inside me for a while,
non c'è riposo mio migliore, e riposo del dopo viaggiare con me, con me, con me, con me No rest my best, and rest after traveling with me, me, me, me viaggio con me Travel with me
voglia mia di vita, like my life, voglia di una colpa, should a fault voglia di perdono, want to lose, voglia di calore umano, desire for warmth, voglia di partire, want to leave, voglia di sapori buoni, want to taste good, voglia di sognare forte, strong desire to dream, voglia di star bene, want to be well, nel mio viaggio ho solo posto per me, in my journey I only place for me, e nel mio viaggio ho solo posto per me, per me, per me, per me, per me. and in my travels I have only place for me, for me, for me, for me, for me.
Questa ragazza occhi cielo, questa ragazza ha un'idea, This girl sky eyes, this girl has an idea e partorire tra le stelle, un giorno quando sarà and give birth to the stars, when will one day libera e fiera di sè, già sicura del nome che avrà, free and fair in itself, already sure of the name that will, questa ragazza occhi cielo, non avrà male mai più, mai più, mai più, mai più, mai più, mai più, mai più this girl eyes sky, will not hurt never, never, never, never, never, never, never
voglia di una stanza, want a room, voglia di silenzio, desire to silence voglia di saltare, want to jump, voglia di colore chiaro, like light-colored, voglia di partire, want to leave, voglia di silenzio, desire to silence voglia di star bene, want to be well, voglia di conoscer pace, want to know peace, e nel mio viaggio ho solo posto per me, and in my travels I have only place for me, e nel mio viaggio ho solo posto per me, per me, per me, per me, per me per me, per me. and in my travels I have only place for me, for me, for me, for me, for me, for me, for me.
Questa ragazza occhi cielo This girl eyes sky

Being ignorant of European politics and government, What does it mean? Is it like when a coalition govt falls or like when a South American coup occurs? Help me understand this.

I recently heard of the tragedy suffered by the Polish people and wished to express my condolences from the people of the United States. It is sad and even ironic that this would occur in relation to Katyn. I am also sure that if anyone could suffer such a loss and maintain their poise and dignity it would be the Polish people.
God bless you all.

Bo, I also hold a permit to carry a concealed weapon. My wife and niece also. It never ceases to amaze me that this is a common topic amongst Europeans. I would bet that any European who has come to the states has never seen a gun here except for maybe in the holster of a police officer. Thats pretty remarkable considering that there are a couple hundred million guns in the US. The fact of the matter is that we are really quite responsible when it comes to gun ownership. People who act recklessly with a firearm in the states have a very short life expectancy. They are as likely to be killed by their fellow citizen as they are by the police. This is never reported in the state run media but firearms are used everyday by citizens to protect their lives and property. Generally they don't even need to be fired, just making their presence known to a potential criminal is more than enough to de-escalate a situation.
Keep in mind that you also have the right to choose not to have one. Simple enough. I find the argument that banning guns would make the country safer to be quite silly. Safer for whom? To me, It would be like saying that removing door locks would prevent burglaries! Thats just crazy.

Tw*t is an extremely vulgar word that is slang for a girl thingy.

As for my English, I have hearing impairments which is why my English background isn't too great. At least I can let people know how I feel. Thanks. Oh CRAP! I would not have guessed that one in a million years. If I offended you, please forgive me. My mothers side was from Chicago also. She lived on Harrison Ave, on the south side. My uncle owned a furniture store on Harlem Ave. Potrykus was their name. Have you been to the Polish immigration museum? Every time I drive through Chicago I intend to stop but am always short of time -Tim

Where are you from Victoria? Your English is good but I dont think it is your native language. I am American, but my family came from Poland a long time ago. I have learned a lot about Poland from people here.

I've been doing some research and came across some great- uncles and aunts. I am unfamiliar with some names and was curious if you native Poles had any comment.
Micejistous: We called him uncle Mahlon (mail-on)
Pelagia: We called her aunt Pauline
Alsose Laurrane, Poland: This is where my great-aunt Martha was born, I think this may be where my great grand-parents were from.
Any help or comment is appreciated. -Tim
