Alcoholics go to classes, and have groups, drunkers don't. If anyone needs help, it is out there for them. But a small drink each day, will not hurt you.

Open it, and share with friends, and let us know what you think.
Any drinking, should only be done with friends, with a limit.

I think on 1 September I will resume my no-alccohol policy which I suspended during holidays with days so hot that it was impossible not to drink beer every day. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Oh, and I opened that bottle of Metaxa which I told you about before. Not urged by any demon, I was just curious how it smells and tastes.
Impression? It is awful - just like French brandy - Cognac. It is virtually impossible to drink it on its own - it has to be mixed with some juice or sth.

As you can see, I got barely 6 points, though it started dramatically, with 4 points in question No 1. That means I am not an alcoholic. This has changed since 2010. Today I believe I am addicted to alcohol. Fortunately, it seems I have very strong will and when I tell myself to do sth, I really do. So, I decided to stop and I haven`t drunk for nearly 3 months now, except for a can of beer on last two Saturdays. And bottles of home made wine under my desk are waiting for better times.

No joke, wine is the drink of gods. When we, humans, drink it, we can feel like in heaven. So, today it is one month I haven`t drunk except for minor amounts on Saturdays. Wow! I hadn`t realised I have had such strong will. Because previously I wasn`t able to get rid on my other addictions.

If I watch this video I understand the drunken Pole problem we have. This is nothing, I did more spectacular things when younger. Peter, I gave up this sh it again. It is a full month since I stopped boozing. A dozen bottles of wine rest under my desk and I trip over them when I stretch my legs, but I haven`t touched them. I am strong!

I have cognac and a fridge full of the most delicious special Belgian and Dutch beers, but drink with disciplin and never to much bottles. I gave up drinking whiskey, genever and vodka years ago and I only like quality wine. I have a male circle of bachelor friends and when occasionaly a girlfriend visits me we drink a good bottle of French, Hungarian or Spanish wine.

I am only able to recognise very poor cheap wine-like drink which here costs about 1 euro ( I tried it once or twice for curiosity reasons). Anything above that level tastes the same to me - Bulgarian wine for 3 euros or another for 20 - doesn`t matter at all. My taste buds are underdeveloped when it comes to wines. As Russians say, bez vodki nie razbieriosz.

Bonobo, My father and one of my best friends who only drinks wine are 'wine experts' in my point of view. When I am in a Dutch supermarket whcih is known for it good wines (better than other supermarkets), I sometimes call my friend and father and they know which wine I should buy. My friend has wine books, wine guides, watches wine programs (TV) and has developped an excellent, refined and delicate wine taste. My sister lives in South-Africa. I drank horrible South-African bottles of wine and some excellent bottles of wine. I don't like wine with a very heavy wood taste or to much Sulfite in it. Due to my past position in the art world I sometimes was asked and wrote speeches for openings of friends of mine in Arnhem, Zutphen and Amstelveen a town next to Amsterdam. As thank for that I often got an excellent bottle of wine, like a Saint-Émilion, an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC), a bottle of wine which I wouldn't buy myself, because it is extremely expensive. I have developped my own simple, moderate, humble wine taste in drinking and buying. It is not a traditional, sophisticated and snobistic wine taste like some of the wine experts who put up a whole show. I like Wild Pig wines, all kind of French wines; Bordeaux, Dorgogne, Languedoc, red and white wines and champagne. My favorite wine grapes are Merlot, Pinotage (A South-African grape, a cross between Pinot noir and Cinsaut), Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, but also some times a bottle of Shiraz red wine. I white wines I love Chablis wines with the Chardonnay grape, and Pinot Blanc wines. In The Hague I drank an exellent Polish wine once. I didn't knew Poland had wines, but this one tasted very good. Do you know about Polish wines Bo? I drank exellent Hungarian wine, Romanian wine, Bulgarian wine, Yugoslavian wine (Serbian/Montenegro), Turkish wine and even North-African wine. I also love Spanish Tempranillo/Tinto Navarra wines, the Portuguese wines I drank at the Azores and in Amsterdam and some Italian wines. There are exellent Calfornian wines. I also drank believe me or not exellent Dutch wines. They serve Dutch white wine in the KLM airlines if you fly with that Dutch airliner. To be honest I often drink or drank beer, whiskey, American Bourbon, or Barcardi Cola with male friends and red wine with girlfriends. Dutch women and girls often prefer wine and guys prefer beer. But I have also girlfriends who like beer too. I limited my alcohol use and often drink water (mineral water) or cola in between my beers. So that I don't get intoxinated to much. And never large quantities of beer or wine again. Because I like to have a good next day or day after. Maybe I am not cool, but I don't like exessive drinking, alcohol abuse and the fact that to much alcohol takes to much energy and is bad for your health. Cheers, Pieter

When I am in a Dutch supermarket whcih is known for it good wines (better than other supermarkets), I sometimes call my friend and father and they know which wine I should buy. Pieter Peter, being a wine expert may mean various things. First, a real expert is able to detect the quality of wine when blind folded. Did you watch the movie with Louis de Funes when he just looks at the wine and is able to name it and provide all other details? Of course, that was director`s imagination but authentic experts are close to that. There are very few such people, I suppose. The second group is people who are only interested in the topic and they know the names of good wines, what food they go with, what temperature is the best etc. But I suppose they wouldn`t be able to see the difference between wines if they were to undergo a blind-fold test. Shortly speaking, it is like graduating from an MA philosophy course. One becomes a philosopher while all the other only know the history of philosophy. It is natural that the first group are true experts while the other are simply amateurs interested in wines. When I mentioned my taste buds, I secretly envied the real ones. As for Polish wines, I know they are produced but it is still too early to develop a culture of real wine making here.

Dear Bonobo,
We have our Dutch wine experts too. I went to the wine museum in Arnhem and there under the ground they have huge wine basements. In 12 degrees celcius the best wines are kept. You have the profession of wine connaisseur yes, and renowned wine tradesmen.
Unfortunately I can't translate this, but you would love this Dutch chap how has a wine chateau (Castle) in France, who makes wine, who lives wine and who is an exellent wine expert. He is not only a wine producer, but he has a NOSE for wine. He is good, very funny, but also a great advisor and connaisseur.
As for Polish and Dutch wines, I know they are produced but it is still too early to develop a culture of real wine making here. I agree with you!
Cheers, Pieter
