You must drink the beer you have brewed. Is this similar to our saying of, "You made your bed, now you must lie in it," which means you must take the consequences of your actions/decisions?

Thank you very much, Bonobo; now I feel appreciated!! I am glad you feel so. At the same time I am worried that the American males in your vicinity allowed such a situation to happen - namely, that you felt unappreciated before. ( I didn't mean to give that impression...there are American males around me who are appreciative. What I didn't say clearly enough was that now I feel appreciated on this forum...which was actually said in irony because I really do feel appreciated here and most of our "arguments" are in good fun!

banda - pack/gang genialny - brilliant hazard - gambling ignorant - ignoramus lunatyk - sleepwalker nowela - short story band means pack/gang - which it could...like "band of brothers" genial means brilliant hazard means gambling ignorant means ignoramus lunatic means sleepwalker - which if you think about it, the root of lunatic is luna/moon, so probably those who were sleepwalking were considered being made "crazy" by the moonlight. novel means short story

I simply don't believe that about you... Which part of my remark exactly? I think I may have misinterpreted your comment. At first glance I thought you meant that you were having trouble remembering the historical order of those events, which was affecting your ability to remember the order of your PINs. Sorry...I guess I assumed that the order in your PINs would be the same as historical order 'cause that's how I would do it to make sure I would remember the PIN. That's why I said I couldn't believe that about you, because I didn't believe you would forget which came first in history, the battle at Grunwald or the battle at Waterloo!!

I use the birth dates of friends. Wow, I only remember my wife`s, kids and sisters` dates. Well, since you have more than just a couple of kids, their dates along with your wife's and sisters' should almost cover it! You can use duplicate PINS for some things, can't you? I simply don't believe that about you...

Forget about spring weather. Today holds the record for the coldest March 4th on record in my area...15 degrees F and -9 degrees C...and it's very windy! I'm f-f-f-freezing! W Marcu jak w garncu - March is like in a pot. "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." Only this year it came in like a lamb...but then quickly became a lion!

Unfortunately, the possession of fur is the most wanted feature which makes a creature appealing to me. I like building a close contact with an animal by kissing, fondling, petting, caressing and stroking its fur. Or touching the soft warm skin of a snake. With birds it is impossible - their feather is generally repulsive. Most birds in Poland don`t have colourful plumage, we are not the Amazon rainforest. Interesting habits ... hmm.. my cats have them, too. Especially, when they deal with white mice which escape from their cage. My own eyesight is too poor to observe birds at a distance without binoculars to which I am allergic. Vicious circle. That bird encounter is in the garden board but it had nothing to do with bird watching, more with my belief in supernatural forces. To sum up, I am too old to change my ways. There is a special proverb about it. I give up...I can see my efforts to convert you are useless! I am talking to the wall...an expression I'm sure you understand!

I, too, hate to see the trees cut down, but I do believe that you should be able to do what you want to do on your own property! Great minds think alike. But many people oppose the new law. A Krakow artist protested in this way: I'm sure it used to be a lovely spot for this mother to sit and nurse her baby...a pity she now sits among the remnants...

Nope, I will never make a good bird watcher since birds have one major disadvantage - they are deprived of soft fluffy fur! Besides, they must be observed with binoculars which is a problem for me because my eyes do not comply with that device. - It doesn't matter that they don't have fluffy fur...a bird-watcher does not pet the birds, but merely observes them for their wonderful diversity, colorful plumage, interesting habits, and benefits to humans and other creatures through their activities such as keeping insects under control, helping to pollinate, etc., etc., etc.! - 99.9% of my own bird-watching is done without binoculars! I have trouble dealing with them, but that doesn't matter because I can use my own eyesight and so can you! Krakow has many trees and parks, so there are many species to be seen right there, and I'm sure your country property hosts a myriad of species! You posted about your encounter with one bird that you thought was trying to give you some message...I can't remember which thread it was in. But merely by posting about that encounter, you are demonstrating that you do indeed have bird-watching skills!

I have those skills. I just remembered!!!! I once found that blue white wing feather and put it in our collection of natural artifacts! A few years ago I even checked the species but forgot about it because I am very forgetful. Do you remember? It is even written there. No, I don't remember, but I did just now look at the photos of your collection and it is quite impressive! I knew you had those skills! You were just being impatient and brushed off the bird details...but see, you found it interesting enough in the past to document the feather in your collection! (And, I'll make a bird-watcher out of you yet!! )

Whew...I'm glad I got that right and am able to maintain my reputation as a "bird person!" This bird doesn`t display any special characteristics by which I could remember it. A simple bird, that`s all. Bonobo, where are your scientific and educator observation skills? My observations told me the bird has a thick bill in the shape that allows it to crack and eat various nuts like sunflower seeds and even acorns which are the food of jays. They characteristically have tufted feathers on their heads, and this bird had striped white and blue markings on its wings which are similar to some markings on the Blue Jay which we have in the U.S. These things plus its size led me to conclude it is a jay...simple!

When students see confident, they instantly think of konfident which is a noun, indeed. But they don`t care about such petty differences. Besides, some sentences may lead them to think so. Wait a minute...aren't you, as their English teacher, supposed to be teaching them those "petty differences?" Adjectives should translate to adjectives, and nouns to nouns! Isn't that part of the learning process?

That sounds like a great idea...but of course, like most threads here, it would have to be fueled by you! I would love it! But it wouldn`t be always fun as the first idea to start this thread would be my post a few days ago: Poles as the only nation in the world which defended its post office. That's fine...it doesn't matter if it's not always fun...neither is life!

Aaah, ground, I missed that, sorry, of course I know it, you used a grinder That's not exactly what I'm talking about...! Besides, the meat is already ground and put in one pound packages by the butcher who processes the beef for my daughter. Then it must be that it was over-cooked! Can't you save the paczki and faworki for Fat Tuesday? Or don't they keep well?

Ha! I would never have guessed! This is more confusing... informer, spy, traitor are nouns; "confident" is an adjective, so wouldn't they think it was the noun "confidant?"

Yes! You must get enough sleep...it is very important! You want to keep your mind cogged and not clogged due to lack of sleep! I promise I will do it tonight. Due to less time under my garlic shield, I got an infection - a very noisy catarrh. P-r-o-b-a-b-l-y your infection is due to lack of sleep which lowered your immunity, not less time under your garlic shield. You actually taught me a new English word...I had to look up the meaning of catarrh; I had never seen that before! Thank you! caravan means hearse hmmmm....don't know chef means boss closet means loo, john (though didn't the British call them "water closets?") confidant means informer, spy, traitor desk means plank fatally means disastrous

Nice. Did you mince that beef that you call it a burger? Please note I referred to the meat as "ground" beef...that would be minced, what we call hamburger. I don't share your need for some resistance for my teeth. In fact, after I steam or bake the diced squash, I usually mash it! That sounds good! I also was shopping today, and I was looking for some nice fish. The supermarket where I usually buy my fresh fish did not have a very good assortment...uncharacteristically...I wonder if they are preparing a big push for fish next week with the start of Lent and aren't putting much out this week in anticipation of that?? Not that a lot of Americans eat fish during Lent in the proper spirit of abstinence from meat as a sacrifice, it's more of just a cultural habit left over from the days when it had the more spiritual meaning...it's more like "Oh, it's Lent, fish will be on sale!" But there are still those of us who do it with good spiritual intention.

I am not familiar with that particular species of bird, (it's probably European, and I'm not...), but looking at its features, I would guess that it is some type of jay. Is this a quiz?? Wow, very good, it is a jaybird, sójka in Polish. Whew...I'm glad I got that right and am able to maintain my reputation as a "bird person!" It would be hard not to notice!

An investigation started to find out the culprit who ordered a few mounted police officers to put on angel wings on Epiphany. They looked amusing and spectators laughed while nobody should laugh at the police!! ) The superior of angle police riders was punished with a reprimand and he isn`t elligible for a bonus this year. Where else but in Poland would this scenario unfold?!

I know, sorry, I did think about that current weather board...and it's one I do like to contribute to! But I don't consider posting the same as making small talk so that there won't be silence! One might consider it small talk. How many times can you repeat that old song about strong winds blowing or snow falling? I think it is a phenomenon of human nature (at least for those living in a climate with 4 seasonal changes) that once a season is over, we immediately forget about how cold, or how hot, or how rainy, or how snowy it was, and instead we begin to discuss the current season and all its meteorological characteristics! For example, once winter is over it totally recedes in our memories, and we begin discussing spring like it's the first time we've ever had it in history!

I must be too hungry. I'm going to go and eat dinner instead of sitting at the computer! Thanks, it is high time to start sharing our culinary memories. So, what did you have for dinner today? Well...I had been out at an appointment for quite awhile this afternoon, so I needed something quick and simple. We still are eating Butternut Squash from our garden, so I had some of that, and I had thawed out some organic, grass-fed ground beef from my daughter and son-in-law's farm, so I broiled a burger. It was quick, easy, and very, very satisfying for a tired-out and hungry person. Now I will go and clean up the kitchen...
